In London, jobs are tight but there is hope
According to the Press Association, for those in London, jobs are looking scarce. Unemployment in London rose 8.1% in the three months before June 2009 with the jobless total in the capital at 359,000. It is clearly a difficult time to search for jobs in London. West London or East London; North London or South London - everyone is feeling the effects of the economic crisis.
But the future is not all doom and gloom for those seeking jobs in London. With record profits in the second quarter of 2009, the job recruitment freeze of leading London banks Barclays, HSBC, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan may be coming to an end. Recent surveys reveal that vacancies for newly qualified accountants rose by 28% between Q1 and Q2 2009. Others show the number of new job vacancies within London’s financial services industry jumped by 20% versus the previous month. While London stockbrokers increased recruitment by 77% between Q1 and Q2 2009. As the city regains strength, so others will begin to turn – albeit only slowly.
To find executive jobs in London, jobs boards are a great way to go
Today, it is estimated that over half of London employers use the Internet to search for candidates and every day thousands of executives in the UK and London submit their CVs and view job postings on popular London search boards. Marketing yourself online has become an essential sales technique to find a job.
But an Executive must be smart when picking London job boards and job search websites
To find the right Executive jobs in London, you need to know what job search boards to use. This can be difficult if you don’t understand how they work. Essentially, there are two main types of jobs boards in London:
- Generalist job boards: Allow anyone to submit their CV regardless of industry sector, position, or salary; and
- Industry job boards: Provide coverage of jobs in London and across the UK in particular industries or job types
The problem with the many generalist and industry job boards is that they fail to offer targeted services to both executive candidates and executive recruiters. Generalist job boards are too general, while specialist job boards operate across the spectrum of junior and senior roles. Few really work to provide targeted services to executive directors and managers in London.
Alpha Executive Jobs – a specialist international job board for executives, managers and professionals – understands these issues. We provide a candidate-driven site that offers confidentiality and flexible service options to attract top executives that recruiters depend upon. By joining Alpha, you'll be joining the elite.
